Last Man Standing ratings strong after hiatus; Blue Bloods ties season high

Last Man Standing

One of the things that we’re always curious about as we get later and later into the year is the state of Friday-night television ratings. After all, this marks a chance to see whether or not shows benefit from the end of high-school football or colder temperatures forcing people outside.

For Last Man Standing, the series should mostly just celebrate having solid ratings after being off the air for two weeks. Sometimes, long hiatuses can be detrimental to a series’ long-term health but that does not appear to be altogether the case here. Last night’s episode generated a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is easily enough for it to be the #1 show in that demo on the night. We’ve said this many times already but it bears repeating, in the event you have not heard — so long as the series continues to keep up this trend, it’s really hard to envision a scenario in which Last Man Standing does not come back for another season.

One other show worthy of at least a brief shout-out here is Fox’s The Cool Kids, which has really held up and fared probably so much better than anyone would have thought. After all, Friday’s episode brought in a 0.9 rating and it has consistently captured around 80% or so of Last Man Standing‘s performance in the demo. That’s the sort of thing that any network will celebrate. Go ahead and write in The Cool Kids for a season 2 next fall.

More great news for Blue Bloods

This show is right up there with Last Man Standing as one of the steadiest ones out there, and Friday night’s episode tied its season high with a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic. To go along with this, it also generated 8.77 million viewers, its third-best total of the entire season. We don’t foresee Blue Bloods being in any danger, either; we already wrote that the contracts for many prominent cast members expire at the end of the season but so long as they want to return (and it does seem like interest is there), it’s hard to imagine Blue Bloods going anywhere. This is a show about family and about tradition, and it’s become a tradition for many viewers all over the country.
