Good Trouble video: Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez on meaning of show’s title
If you look at the new video, you can get some of the latest thoughts from the likes of Maia Mitchell, Cierra Ramirez, and others about the show’s very title and what it means. “Good Trouble” is a phrase that has been ascribed a lot to representative John Lewis, a prominent civil-rights activists, though it has been used for a number of different things over time. To us, the main meaning of it is that it’s really just all about finding a way to have your voice used for good and to make a positive impact on the world. Don’t be afraid to speak out or be controversial, given that doing this may very well be the thing that, more than anything else, that actually changes things for the better.
Odds are, you’ve heard a thing or two already about Good Trouble is hoping to shake things up for its upcoming first season. It’s going to begin with Callie (Mitchell) and Mariana (Ramirez) moving to Los Angeles following the events of The Fosters in order to make a name for themselves in a larger way. Callie is working to establish more of a legal career and that means taking a position under a judge — her challenge is that it is under a conservative judge. It would’ve been easy for her to find someone whose views aligned closer to her own, but this road less traveled may be the road best traveled given that she may actually be able to change minds and make the world a much better place than it would have been otherwise.
Meanwhile, Mariana is going to be doing her best in this show in order to dive head-first into the world of tech — one of the most competitive fields that are out there. There are opportunities in order to make billions of dollars in this space but it can also be incredibly unforgiving. It’s also male-dominated and along her way to success, Mariana is likely going to be forced to combat sexism and people doubting her at every turn.
Luckily, we do think that there is one thing that these two characters have that gives them a leg up on almost everyone else: Resiliency. They’ve been through all sorts of highs and lows over the years and they understand a number of the challenges that are out there in world. They’re far more capable than most of taking on challenges head-on.
