Supernatural season 14 episode 9 is entitled “The Spear” and if our early assumptions about this story are correct, odds are that this is going to be very much an entertaining hour of television. It’s also going to be presumably the final one of the first half of the season; on the other side of this, we would expect to see Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles, and the remainder of the cast back on the air until we get around to January.

So what are we excited about here more so than anything else? It really all comes back to the opportunity to see DJ Qualls and his character of Garth back on the show. This is someone who hasn’t been around for a while, but we’ve long felt could return if there was ever a perfect opportunity to see him. This could be that very opportunity. This episode will offer up a good chance in order to see Garth serve as a potential source of information. Beyond just that, it will also offer up a continuation to the Michael storyline that has been more or less lurking throughout the entirety of the season. Even though we may not be seeing as much of Ackles as Michael as we did a little bit earlier in the year, this is still a character who is looking to have a rather-broad impact on the world of the series at large.
Below, CarterMatt offers up the official Supernatural season 14 episode 9 synopsis with some more information as to what’s coming:
THE BEST LAID PLANS – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) enlist the help of their pal Garth (guest star DJ Qualls) to gain inside information on what Michael may be planning. The brothers split up to each go after weapons that can aid in their fight against the Archangel, but this may be a fight our heroes cannot win. The episode was directed by Amyn Kaderali and written by Robert Berens (#1409). Original Airdate 12/13/2018.
As we do inch ever closer to the midway point of the season, we do wonder whether or not the Michael plotline is destined to go until the finale. Could it really last that long, or is this series going to find a way in which to wrap things up beforehand? At the moment, we think that there is some life left in the tank … provided of course that the writers find a way to keep it interesting.
