Voice season 13 promo

Well, tonight The Voice did something a little bit different — Reagan Strange didn’t actually perform during the live shows.

What happened? Well, the answer here is rather simple: She’s under the weather and with that in mind, she did not perform. It’s not altogether often in which we don’t see someone perform on the shock, sickness or otherwise. Basically, she was still up for the save at the end of the episode … which we do think matters and creates an interesting debate. Could she actually move forward on the show without actually performing in the way that other contestants do?

Don’t get us wrong — we do still feel for her. We just imagine that there will be all sorts of arguments about whether or not she deserves to go through because of what happened to her. Yet, we do understand the show giving her a shot to move forward regardless, given that any other contestant would probably hope for the same in the event they were in this situation. It’s not as though Reagan can help being sick.

Well, here’s the thing…

Reagan did somehow manage to figure out a way to stick around. After all, she was put through by America to the next round! This means that she gets an opportunity to move forward and still contend for the title … but we do feel bad for DeAndre and Dave, given that they went out there on stage and performed only to find out that neither one of them gets to move forward.

Should The Voice change the rules for this in the future? We’re going to argue no, mostly because this feels like a one-in-a-million situation. Also, there’s no real chance that either DeAndre or Dave were going to win this show, even if this situation is terrible for them. Reagan does have a little bit of a chance, especially since she has performed extremely well over time when it comes to streams. She does still have a chance of at least being in the finals, and you could attribute possible sickness to at least some of her performance the night before.

In the end, we expect nothing other than super-divided reactions to what we saw tonight, and we have a feeling that this conversation is going to follow Reagan, more or less, for the reminder of the season. Just because of circumstance, it will be hard to avoid.
