Are you ready for Agents of SHIELD season 6? Well, you’re unfortunately going to have to wait a little while still to see what’s coming next — but not so long to hear from the new Director!
Moving forward, Mack (Henry Simmons) is going to have the task of leading the organization following the departure of Phil Coulson. His status moving into the sixth season appears to be very much up in the air; personally, we still have a hard time buying into the idea of the character dying, largely due to the fact that he has been a huge part of the show for so long. (Also, Coulson has come back from the dead before, so we’ve long taken a never-say-never philosophy when it comes to his future.)
We don’t want to make all of this article about Phil, though, which is why we’re moving forward now with the subject of Mack and how he will adjust to this new leadership position. You can see the first photo of him in charge below (via TVLine); Simmons also tells the site a little bit about how he is going to adjust to the role:
“Personally, I love the challenge of being the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. … Mack has worked side-by-side with the people he now leads, and that works to his advantage — he’s one of them … But the one thing that can hinder Mack’s ability to lead is his reluctance to put the people he loves in the line of danger. As a result, this may lead to Mack’s toughest decision as director. What sacrifices will be made?”
We absolutely do believe that we’re going to see Mack up for the job, but some of these decisions may weigh on him and he’ll need some advice as time goes on — regardless of whether or not Coulson is gone for good. Given that season 6 is only 13 episodes, we absolutely do think the pace is going to move fast so that we can check out some twists and turns that emerge along the way. We do expect a good many of them!
Also, it’s just nice to enter season 6 knowing already that it is not the end of the road. A season 7 will be coming at some point presumably in 2020, though it’s obviously far too early in order to figure out just what is going to happen with some of these characters then. There could be yet another director of SHIELD at that point, so we don’t want to make any enormous assumptions.
