It should not be all that much of a surprise that the Call the Midwife Christmas Special is going to introduce some new faces into the mix. After all, how could it really not? This special is an annual event that allows us an opportunity to really see whole-heartedly the evolution of Nonnatus House, and sometimes, that does mean that new people are turning due to either the passage of time or some other circumstances.
Today, what we can say is that we’re rather pleased that there are three new sisters entering the mix at Nonnatus during the special! As the show’s official account reveals below, Ella Bruccoleri, Mirian Margolyes, and Fenella Woolgar are going to be coming on board the BBC series for the Special as Sister Frances, Sister Mildred, and also Sister Hilda.
One of the things that has been rather great about the Sisters on Call the Midwife is that there is such a high degree of variance within them. While the general assumption / stereotype is that the nun is always going to be someone sweet, caring, and intent on putting others before themselves, we’ve seen throughout the course of this series that this is not always the case. We have already seen upon many an occasion that some of these characters are rather prone to causing some conflict or thinking in a way that is rather unorthodox, to put it lightly, for the typical nun. Sometimes, they are thinking with a business mind; other times, they can be quite harsh and have a specific manner of doing things.
In the end, though, we do think that most sisters within the Call the Midwife world all do want the same thing: Health and happiness for some of the women who are treated by the midwives. To go along with that, of course they also do continue to put their faith within a higher power and do what they can to honor their God.
If you missed it previously…
You can see at the bottom of this article a recent sneak preview from the Christmas Special, one focused mostly on Trixie, that was originally revealed during the BBC Children in Need charity special. This sneak preview is another reminder of everything that Call the Midwife likes to pack into some of its specials content-wise. They recognize that births and patients are still at the forefront of what they do, but every now and then, there are also chances to have a little bit of fun with the cast outside of their typical element.
