X Factor

Tonight, the X Factor UK final officially begins! Scarlett Lee, Dalton Harris, and Anthony Russell are all going to be performing in the hopes of making it to the final two. We expect this to be an intense battle … and we say that knowing that Dalton is probably sure to make it to the finals and even win.

Solo performances

Anthony Russell, “Let It Be” – Given that he’s from Liverpool, doesn’t it make sense for him to do one of the most-iconic Beatles songs out there? While we do think that there were some serious tuning issues in here, we do appreciate the fact that he did something a little bit more personal so close to the end of the show. Grade: B-.

Dalton Harris, “A Song for You” – This is a tough song to do, mostly because there’s really not all that much of a melody here to it. You have to make this interesting with the way in which you sing it. Suffice it to say, he did that. Dalton’s a superstar, both in terms of his vocals and also the way that he sings. Outstanding. Grade: A.

Scarlett Lee, “Your Song” – It’s funny that Scarlett and Dalton both did songs with similar names. We actually like this song choice better than the other ones we got in the first round, but the arrangement here was a little bit wonky. It took a minute to actually recognize precisely what the song choice really is. Grade: A-.

Duets

Anthony Russell and Tom Walker, “Leave the Light On”  Anthony is a fine singer, but the difference between the two was clear when it comes to connecting to the audience. Anthony’s just missing that extra gear of pain and grit that you get with some other singers.

Dalton Harris and Emeli Sande, “Beneath Your Beautiful” – There were a couple of times where the harmony didn’t completely mesh here, but we do love the song choice and the emotional connection here. Emeli really treated him like an equal, and that helped the performance feel very real and organic.

Scarlett Lee and Robbie Williams, “Angels” – While we do think that this was one of the stranger duets out there, we did love how Scarlettt was so psyched to sing a super-iconic song with him. We never really just anything based on the duets, though, so we’re not going to do that here.
