NCIS season 16 is airing a couple of new episodes in December, including a holiday-themed installment in “What Child Is This?”. At the center of this episode is going to be a baby without any obvious identification or family. The infant is found as a result of a suspect being arrested — their ties to this particular suspect remain to be seen.

According to a new report from TVLine, what makes this episode especially interesting (at least to us) comes via the world of Bishop and Torres. Within this episode, you are going to see these two characters do their part in order to care for this baby … or at least put on airs of this very thing. As a significant part of this case, the two are going to dive undercover and do their best in order to figure out some more information about both the baby and the case itself as a whole.
Typically when it comes to crime-TV shows, we often see producers throw something like this out there as a means to sort of test the characters as potential parents down the line — it’s something fun for everyone who ‘ships Bishop and Torres. Yet, the reality here still remains that they are not anywhere close to being in a romantic relationship just yet. There are many moves that need to be made in order to get these characters from point A to point B, and opening up about their feelings in some sort of genuine manner is a big part of it. NCIS probably won’t hurry that along, though, mostly because this is the sort of show that doesn’t regularly opt to emphasize romance.
There will probably be some more opportunities to further explore Bishop and Torres at some point in the future — after all, we’ve seen some episodes before where they go deep cover and have to portray a certain relationship. The photo above is perfect proof of that. We’ll just have to wait and see what the future holds as we get a little bit further into this season. (Heck, Bishop and Torres are not the only prominent NCIS ‘ship at the moment — there are also a number of other people who are rooting for Gibbs and Sloane, and we are waiting to see precisely what is coming up next.)
