Cosmos host Neil deGrasse Tyson investigated over misconduct claims
Following a recent Patheos report in which two woman accused the Tyson of improper conduct, the producers of his Fox series (which is currently slated to return in the new year) had the following to say in a new statement via Deadline:
“The credo at the heart of Cosmos is to follow the evidence wherever it leads … The producers of Cosmos can do no less in this situation. We are committed to a thorough investigation of this matter and to act accordingly as soon as it is concluded.”
Meanwhile, Fox and National Georgraphic (who are also both behind the series) also had the following to add:
“We have only just become aware of the recent allegations regarding Neil deGrasse Tyson … We take these matters very seriously and we are reviewing the recent reports.”
It is a little too early to speculate as to what the end result of this investigation could be, but it does feel clear that the final impact of it could be far-reaching. These are claims that will be investigated and, on the other side, the network and the studio will render some sort of verdict. These two women are not the first to levy an accusation against Tyson, as Tchiya Amet, a musician, chose to do so last year.
For many years, Tyson has been considered one of the pioneers when it comes to bringing science and discussion of outer space to television. He’s done so on Cosmos, on talk shows, and in other mainstream outlets. However, he has come under criticism for some of the information that he presents and also how many choose to blank him as the ideal, perfect scientist in the modern-day era. For the sake of this story, none of this really matters. Instead, it is about the specific accusations and whether or not there is something that happens in the aftermath of it.
As this is a developing story, we will have more information on the subject as it breaks. To go along with that, we welcome you to share some of your thoughts on the subject in the comments. (Photo: Fox.)
