Saturday Night Live promo: Claire Foy, Pete Davidson’s food fight!

Saturday Night Live

This weekend, Saturday Night Live is going to return with a new episode, and based on the promo, this could be fun! Claire Foy is serving as the host for this weekend’s installment alongside Anderson .Paak, and in this article, we have a chance to learn all about what is apparently a pre-show tradition.

Okay, we lied. Having a food fight with a cast member is not actually a show tradition, but it’s clearly one that Pete Davidson wants to start! That’s why he convinces Foy to throw a bunch of food at him and vice-versa. It’s a silly preview that does show that she’s game to do a lot of silly stuff, and beyond just that, this is actually one of the funnier promos that the series has done this season. The big joke at the end of the promo is that A) there is no food-fight tradition before the show, B) this is something that Davidson just wanted to do in order to replicate the movies, and C) all of this food was apparently Heidi Gardner’s lunch and Claire now apparently owes her hundreds of dollars. (Heidi Gardner officially has the best metabolism of all time.)

Ultimately, previews can set the tone for an upcoming episode and this one certainly seems like it will be fun. Foy knows going in that a whole lot of her image is tied to being the earlier version of the Queen on The Crown and because of that, we do think that she will look at this as an opportunity to let loose and show that she can do so much more than be a monarch in a costume drama. (Granted, she’s already done that — take a look at her credits — but most mainstream viewers do not know that.)

As for the decision to include Pete in this promo, we do think that this clearly shows the series continuing to embrace him despite a fairly-crazy past few months that included a high-profile broken engagement alongside everything that went down with Dan Crenshaw. Somehow, though, that situation got resolved in a way that was so much better for both sides of the aisle than almost anyone probably expected. Who knew that Pete Davidson and Crenshaw would have that kind of moment on the show this season?
