Supernatural season 14 episode 9 spoilers: DJ Qualls is back as Garth!

It’s been a long time since Qualls was last credited for an appearance as Garth — think all the way back in 2014 — and it looks as though he’s coming back for a specific reason. His presence has to do with the reemergence of Michael in hopes that Sam and Dean can find a way to defeat him; of course, doing so may be a little easier said than done.

THE BEST LAID PLANS – Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) enlist the help of their pal Garth (guest star DJ Qualls) to gain inside information on what Michael may be planning. The brothers split up to each go after weapons that can aid in their fight against the Archangel, but this may be a fight our heroes cannot win. The episode was directed by Amyn Kaderali and written by Robert Berens (#1409). Original Airdate 12/13/2018.
Is this just so turns out to be the final episode of the year (which seems likely), we imagine that this will be Supernatural setting up some big stories for whatever is going up in the back half of the season. With that being said, though, we do also have one other simple request: Can the writers find a way to keep Sam and Dean together more? There have been some fun stories this season, but the one thing that has been routinely frustrating throughout is the fact that, for one reason or another, the brothers have been split up a lot. Doing this a few times a season can be fun, but it’s felt like Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles haven’t actually been together for the bulk of the season. We understand that this is more of an ensemble show than it once was, but the real charm of Supernatural still remains getting to see everyone together more so than spending some substantial period of time with all of them apart.
Beyond this complaint, we do think that there’s a lot to be excited about here and we certainly do appreciate Supernatural finding ways to bring some notable guest stars back into the fold again.
