We’ve said for a rather-long time that we’d love to see Tom Felton back on The Flash as Julian Albert. Why was that? For starters, he just brought a different energy to the STAR Labs team. Julian was somewhat of a curmudgeon; he doubted the effectiveness of various plans at times and carried with him a great deal of baggage. There was a lot of backstory left to be explored with the character, regardless of whether or not anything became of his feelings for Caitlin Snow.

Ultimately, Julian’s character was written out in blink-and-you’ll-miss-it fashion at the start of season 4, and given that Felton only had a one-year deal as Julian, it does kind of make sense. They’ve effectively replaced his spot on the team with Ralph Dibny, a comedic character who has his merits but is not exactly the same guy.
While we don’t foresee a Felton reprisal coming in the near future, here is some of what the actor himself had to say in a recent interview via Digital Spy:
“Absolutely, yeah. I miss it … I miss those guys terribly, yeah. I miss Grant [Gustin who plays Barry Allen/The Flash], and all the team there. I had a great time in Vancouver for nine months. Yeah, I say bring back Julian.”
Of course, we think that a good opportunity to have brought back Julian was in the 100th episode of the show, which has already filmed. That episode is featuring the return for many different characters, including some classic villains. Yet, there hasn’t been any news regarding a Tom Felton return there, and it may just be something that we get more of a chance to see down the road. (We’re certainly going to be looking out for some updates on the subject, even if we don’t expect anything.)
The good news here is that story-wise, we do think that there are some exciting ways that you could include Julian on the show. Take, for example, you could feature a story about another artifact that he has some sort of knowledge of. Or, you could just introduce a character who has ties to his past. We think that the worst thing that happened with the Caitlin love story was just bad timing. After all, the character just so happened to be on after two straight years of Caitlin love interests, and nobody at the time was interested in another.
