Supergirl season 4 episode 7: Melissa Benoist on James Olsen conflict

Supergirl season 4 episode 3

Want to get a good sense of what’s coming on Supergirl season 4 episode 7? Well, at the center of it is a James Olsen storyline that leaves the character compromised and conflicted in a way that we don’t often see. He’s already immersed himself in the world of the Children of Liberty, thinking that the one way in which he can find Agent Liberty and the truth is to be someone that the organization can trust. He’s doing a risky thing for a good reason, but where things get complicated is that this very act could lead to Kara being vulnerable and in big trouble. You can see some of that in a recent promo for this episode.

So, is there going to be an unprecedented level of tension between Kara and James because of his decision on Sunday’s episode? If there is, it doesn’t seem like it will hold the two characters back for long. Speaking (via ComicBook.com) on the subject, here is what Melissa Benoist had to say on the subject:

“She is aware that his intentions are always the best … I think she knows James well enough to know that he’s a risk taker and that he’s going to do what he needs to do to tell the story he wants to tell as a journalist. There is conflict of interest there too because he’s dating her best friend and he knows Kara’s secret of Supergirl and Lena doesn’t. So those are complicated waters to tread. But I do think their friendship prevails over everything.”

In speaking towards the relationship between James and Lena, we do think the fact that he knows Kara’s secret is an under-reported story in all of this. There’s a reason for genuine concern as to what happens in the event that Lena learns the truth, mostly because A) she values loyalty so much more than almost anything and B) the fact that she’s got so much power and resources. She’s not the sort of person you want on your bad side, though she’s also not someone to lose her temper and then act on it, either. She’s a little bit more careful and calculating than that and we certainly expect her to continue to be that way as this series continues along.
