By and large, most of the answers that we are talking about at the moment pertain to the Vietnam storyline that we’ve seen throughout the season. It looks as though Kevin, for example, is going to meet the woman who gave the necklace to Jack. For everyone who was looking for some sort of larger, soap-opera sort of twist (such as the notion that Jack or Nicky were the father of the boy there), you’re probably disappointed. The necklace doesn’t seem to be anywhere near as complicated as anyone first thought. Instead, it may just be a simple byproduct of what Jack did in order to help her son.
As for what else is coming, this installment is also going to give you a chance to see Randall actually engaging in some sort of active political debate — basically, the real stuff that we’ve been waiting for more so than anything else this season. We’re very much psyched to see if there’s a way that he can win people over, especially given the foothold that Solomon Brown already has in the district. The biggest issue that he’s got here is the same one that we’ve described many times over now — how do you win over a group of people who are already so entrenched in another camp? Also, how can these people trust Randall given that he doesn’t even live in the area? How he moves forward and tries to represent them from afar after the fact is another thing he has to think about. It’s one thing for him to try to recapture the experience of his father and help people in the same neighborhood; it’s another altogether for him to become so involved that it overshadows the life that he had.
Finally, flash back to Jack’s past in Vietnam, as this could be the episode where we finally have a chance to learn precisely what happened to Nicky. We know that Jack loves to be the hero, but his brother may just be that one person who, tragically, just cannot be saved no matter the cost.
