Game of Thrones season 8 episodes could all be over an hour

Game of Thrones

It’s been hardly a secret for a while now that many of the Game of Thrones season 8 episodes will be longer. Yet, how much longer? That’s something that we are getting a little bit more information on now.

Well, in a recent Ask Me Anything session on Reddit, regular show director David Nutter (who has done some of the series’ most-iconic episodes) recently passed along some of the information he knew about the end of the show:

Season 8 episodes will all I think be longer than 60 minutes. They’ll be dancing around the bigger numbers, I know that for sure.

Just in case you need a secondary source of information on that, Iain Glen (who plays the part of Ser Jorah) said something reasonably similar in a new interview with the Express:

We all sat down for the read-through of six feature-length episodes. They took longer to film, cost more, and are more surprising.

Basically, it almost feels like Game of Thrones crammed four or so movies’ worth of content into just six television episodes; the fact that they even shot these in the amount of time that they did was astounding. A lot of times later on in series’ runs, we have a tendency to see things get a little bit lighter for some of the longtime cast members. That doesn’t seem to be the case here. Instead, we’ve got an instance in which we could actually see things tend to become a little more chaotic for everyone as they find some ways to cram and ensure that almost every single story gets told here that really needs to. We know that there are many a loose end, and we’re not even sure that all of them will be tied up. So long as we get information on most of them, we’re bound to be happy.

For now, HBO’s grand plan is to launch the final Game of Thrones season in April, with the six episodes hopefully airing one week after the next. Depending on the launch date, it’s possible that the entire series will be done before Labor Day Weekend, and we certainly do anticipate that this show is going to clobber almost everything in its path in the process.

So … when’s the trailer coming?

Hopefully, at some point in the new year, but we’re not sure that HBO is going to be dishing out any more information on that over the holiday season. They’re bound to keep at least a few cards close to the vest on that subject.
