We begin today with a new image of Richard Rankin as Roger MacKenzie, one that suggests that he is back in Scotland — and also making potentially a fateful phone call to Brianna. We saw in the promo for this episode Roger call her up in order to deliver some news on the status of her mother, and this could be the beginning of an epic journey for her — ones that fans of the books are very much familiar with. We are hesitant to say too much just in case you are one of the few who doesn’t know too much about what lies ahead, but there are some very big, emotionally powerful stories that still need to be told with the Brianna character moving forward.
As for whether or not Roger and Bree are back on good terms after this past episode, there’s a reason for hope since they clearly care about each other — they just need to bridge the gap between their ideological differences. For Roger, that also means making sure not to treat her differently just because she does not share the same views.
This next photo, meanwhile, plunges us back into the past and gives us a first look at Governor William Tryon, someone whose presence is very much integral to Jamie and Claire’s story in the wilderness. He is, after all, the man who can offer the Frasers a rather substantial plot of land, but with that could come some major strings — having to support the British military down the road. As Claire knows especially, it could mean the two of them being on the losing side of another battle. Jamie was lucky to escape Culloden alive; there is no guarantee that this would happen again.
Yet, save for going to the Governor at this point or just claiming some land as their own, what other options do Jamie and Claire have? They clearly don’t want to become the owners of River Run.
Finally, we have what is mostly just a fun Jamie / Claire image here that reminds us almost of someone carrying the bride past the threshold on their wedding day. Symbolically, what it seems to represent here is the beginning of the two’s Fraser’s Ridge home.
