In a new statement via TVLine, Linda Hunt confirms that it was not the original plan for her to sit out as much of the original season as she has; yet, she needed to take additional time off following a car accident this summer. She is still recovering, but she does have every intention of being there at some point over the course of season 10. Take a look below:

“I first want to say how much I appreciate the outpouring of support from the NCIS: Los Angeles fans following my car accident this summer … Though I had hoped to return to playing Hetty at the start of the season, I had to take some additional time to recover. I look forward to returning later this season.”

Because of both Hetty’s absence and also what’s been going on with Shay Mosley, NCIS: Los Angeles this season has almost used a leadership-by-committee approach to making sure that there is someone overseeing much of the team. Kilbride was the character who looked after them a good bit at the start of the season, and since then we’ve seen more of Esai Morales and his character of Ochoa. Mosley may be back eventually, though there is no specific return date for her, and we certainly do think that Hetty will resume some of her duties before too much longer.

Could Hetty’s return impact the Densi wedding?

In some ways, we do think that it’s possible it could. As much as we do want to see Deeks and Kensi tie the knot, it also wouldn’t feel completely right unless Hunt’s character was there to oversee all of it. She is, after all, the beating heart of the team and her presence is one of the reasons why this show has been on the air as long as it has. She’s got such a good relationship with both characters that we want to see her there, giving some sort of a speech.

Typically, NCIS: Los Angeles takes a long break during parts of January and February for the NFL playoffs / awards season before coming back in March with a run of new episodes. Hopefully, at some point in the spring we will see Hetty back; it’d be somewhat of a surprise if she was to return sooner, given that the character even said through voice modulation earlier this season that she’d be gone for a while.
