Fuller House season 4 spoilers: More talk about Fernando’s mom!

Fuller House

There’s a good bit of fun coming when Fuller House season 4 premieres on Netflix next month, and it goes beyond just Kimmy’s pregnancy — one of the big stories going on at the moment. After all, we’re going to get a chance to see Fernando’s mom on the show soon!

It was reported earlier this year that former Wizards of Waverly Place star Maria Canals-Barrera would be playing the character, and we definitely feel like she’s going to bring every bit of fun that you would expect to this show. There’s going to be a chance to see a lot of humor mixed in here and, beyond just that, a chance to learn more about Fernando himself. As someone who’s found this character a tremendous injection of comedic joy, this is an opportunity to expand the comedy and also see why he is the person that he is.

So what went into the decision to bring Fernando’s mother on the series? Well, here is some of what Juan Pablo Di Pace (who was recently eliminated from Dancing with the Stars) had to say on the subject as a result of a new interview with TVLine:

“We’ve been talking about having Fernando’s mom on the show for three seasons, and I had so many ideas about what his mother would be like. I’ve always wanted a Sofia Vergara/Jennifer Lopez mother, and they gave her to me. … She’s also way too young to be my mother. You can tell where Fernando gets his drama from.”

When we see Fernando’s mom, we’re expecting an hour full of comedy — and then also of course a season full of silly maternity storytelling with Kimmy pregnant and carrying Stephanie’s child. Fernando is that sort of character who feels a lot by proxy and with that in mind, we can already imagine in our head situations in which he is starting to feel a little bit too much of what Kimmy is going through.

As for whether or not this is the last season Di Pace gets to play Fernando, that’s something that does still remain to be seen; yet, we remain hopeful that there could be a season 5! The ball is just very much in Netflix’s court and everything is going to be up to how the new season performs and where the series wants to go with the story on the other side of that. (Our plan is to offer full coverage of season 4 throughout the weeks to come, partially in hopes that it brings up some more discussion around a season 5.)
