The Durrells in Corfu season 4 premiere date hopes on PBS
The first news to report here is that this series (entitled simply The Durrells in ITV over in Great Britain) is not going anywhere. The show has already been renewed for another batch of episodes, which is absolutely a cause for excitement. It’s a nice dose of weekly family fun and while there are some serious stories, it never gets too dark or depressing giving viewers a bit of an escape. It almost makes you want to jump aboard a boat and head over to Corfu yourself, given that there are so many adventures that this family tends to have there. You have the animals, the aspirations, and a wide array of colorful characters.
If there is one bit of bad news to hand down here, it is that The Durrells in Corfu will only run for six episodes in season 4, as opposed to the eight it received in season 3. Fluctuating episode orders is something that happens a great deal in British television, mostly because the episode counts tend to be based more so on the story than just about anything else. The producers are not anywhere near as keen as to extend the story just for the sake of doing so and would rather just tell a solid, cohesive story without unwanted filler. Beyond the show’s creative, the smaller order makes some sense given that actress Keeley Hawes, who plays Louisa on the series, is insanely busy doing this show alongside a number of other projects — think in terms of the BBC’s super-popular Bodyguard or the upcoming Jerusalem. With her schedule, it’s really a rather-lucky thing that we’re even getting her back at all.
In getting back now to the question as to when season 4 of The Durrells in Corfu should premiere, just think for a moment about when the past batches of episodes have come on the air on PBS — look towards the fall. While this season may air first in the UK in the spring or summer, odds are you’ll have to wait for a while to see it stateside. PBS tends to like to run things on a fairly stringent schedule where you have shows coming on around the same time every year. Plus, it doesn’t seem like their own ratings are impacted all that much by them airing first in the UK.
How long could a show like The Durrells last?
In theory, the show could go on for generations given that this is really just all about a family. Yet, at the same time we don’t really think that will happen. Given that this is a series with a busy cast about a certain period of history, our hope is mostly just that we will be able to get a couple more years out of it.
