According to a new report via Deadline, former Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy actress Kate Burton (she’s popular in Shondaland for a reason — she’s awesome) is going to be appearing on the show as Isabel, a “kind and nurturing” mother. That’s an important thing for someone like Nia to have, but we don’t want to make any larger assumptions about either this character or the story that is coming up given how little information is actually out there.

Meanwhile, you are also going to be seeing Hannah James, who you may know for either Mercy Street or a notable one-episode turn as Geneva on Outlander, coming on board as Nia’s older, very driven sister Maeve. Through these two women, you may get more of a defined sense as to who Nia is and precisely why she chooses to conduct herself as she does. We hope that Nia has had some good role models in her life to inspire her to be the person that she is — maybe some of those come from within her own family.

As for what we expect in terms of Nia’s story in general this season, much of it could revolve around her eventual transformation into the hero Dreamer — though it is clear at the moment that the writers are not altogether keen to rush any of that along. There hasn’t been any talk about a costume or anything else just yet, and we do wonder precisely what her powers could be within the world of the show itself. There are some ways in which the series could explore her value as a costumed crime-fighter, whenever the writers do decide to get to that point.

For now, the focus on season 4 remains the anti-alien movement and the characters doing everything they can in order to thwart Agent Liberty, the Big Bad and man who seems to be intent on destroying as many aliens’ lives as possible. While he does not seem to possess much in the way of powers himself, he almost doesn’t need them. He is so influential that removing him from the equation does not really do anything other than just spark further anger among those who support him. This is not a case of one villain terrorizing all of the city; instead, this season is about one villain dividing the city and the ramifications that come along with that.
