Madam Secretary season 5 episode 7 preview: Elizabeth, the VP team up

Madam Secretary

Next week, Madam Secretary season 5 episode 7 (entitled “Baby Steps”) is angling to be a little bit more of a personal story than most others. Vice President Teresa Hurst is returning to the series and with that, we’re going to see her with a very specific plight. It’s the sort of thing that only Elizabeth may be able to help with; they’ve had a somewhat-contentious relationship due to their future political aspirations, but Bess isn’t going to let potential campaigns get in the way of her being a good person.

Moving into this episode, CarterMatt has the Madam Secretary season 5 episode 7 synopsis with some more information as to what’s coming:

Baby Steps” – Vice President Teresa Hurst asks Elizabeth for help when a surrogate carrying her future grandchild is arrested in Laos for human trafficking. Also, Henry tries to protect Stevie from danger when he suspects that she’s being followed by a Russian operative, and Blake deals with the demanding and costly instructions of a delegation of Japanese gardeners, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Nov. 18 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

After reading something like this, it’s easy to have a number of key observations.

1. Teresa and Hurst probably do need to get in good with each other – After all, odds are that the two wouldn’t be competing against each other in the general election — they are probably primary opponents at best.

2. Who is after Stevie? – It’s an interesting question to wonder, especially when it comes to the potential motivations behind it. Stevie’s had a fairly tumultuous season so far, mostly stemming from the recovery process that she’s been on since the attack on the White House since the premiere.

3. Blake’s struggle is real – We do actually think that there is some seriousness to what he’s going through, despite the obvious comedy that comes with Blake being ordered around by gardeners. What these people want is probably very intricate!

We do think that the vast majority of this episode, though, is going to be revolving around Elizabeth and Vice President Hurst doing everything that they can in order to resolve the issue in Laos. It’s going to take some serious diplomacy in order to figure this out; Laos is not the sort of place that is even on the map to most Americans, so this should be a chance for some education, as well, among the average viewer of the show.

Here’s the good news

The episode is (seemingly) going to air at the show’s standard time at 10:00 p.m. Eastern time. If nothing else, it won’t face some of the substantial NFL delays that it had tonight, which is good given that some of these are insufferable.
