The Good Doctor season 2 episode 7 video: The kidney negotiation

Good Doctor season 2 episode 4

If there’s a word to describe the main medical story on The Good Doctor season 2 episode 7, it’s this: Painful. This is going to be one of the hardest cases for Shaun Murphy and the rest of the medical staff to navigate, mostly because it just so turns out that they are dealing with one of the jerkier family members that they have ever seen. The promo below gives you a little more insight as to what we’re talking about here.

At the center of this episode is a man who desperately needs a kidney in order to save his life. As it turns out, there’s a possible donor that doesn’t require a lot of searching in order to find: His brother. Yet, here is the problem: This brother will only give up a kidney if it means getting his sick brother’s business. Basically, he is viewing this almost as a financial transition more so than helping a guy in need who is of his own blood.

While everyone deals with varying layers of shock over this and the potential donor doesn’t relent on his condition, Shaun seems to be put in a position of unlikely mediator. He does remind the sick brother that the deal could be a good one for him, largely because of the fact that if he takes the kidney, he survives. It’s a pretty clear condition that allows him to move forward in a way that he would not be able to otherwise. Still, the problem here is knowing that he only has a kidney because he had to give up money to his brother — a potentially huge amount of money to go along with it.

This is a case that could push everyone to the limit and, at the moment, we do think that Shaun and Morgan are going to be especially insistent on getting results. Remember what happened on this past episode with Dr. Reznick, as her decisions in that case led to consequences more severe than they really needed to be. That is an outcome that she is looking to avoid and, more than likely, she will push for whatever the outcome is that allows her to save the patient. Even if this is just for the purpose of furthering her career, it does still save the patient; sometimes, you do need to just take the win for what it is.
