In this first photo above, you can see Jamie (Sam Heughan), Claire (Caitriona Balfe), and Aunt Jocasta (Maria Doyle Kennedy) all outside the River Run home, where they are seemingly beholding something of importance. Yet, it is clearly not something that either Fraser is in awe of, as their expressions certainly do not connotate much excitement. There’s a slight look of concern present for the two, but not so much that they are each willing to move from where they are placed. This look may also be that of frustration over their present circumstance — Jamie and Claire find themselves in a rather difficult spot entering this episode, one in which they are forced to deal with their current financial circumstances (many of their most-valuable things were taken by Stephen Bonnet) while also coming to grips with Jocasta’s own lifestyle — one that includes slavery. It’s a hard thing for the two to contend with, and we imagine that this will continue to be a part of the story however long they are present at River Run.

Of course, there are also some other issues that they may need to address over time.

Outlander season 4 episode 2

Both this photo of Jamie and the one of Claire featured below do not necessarily tell you much about the story; yet, they are reminders of the character’s placement within the world. Even despite what they have gone through, they remained well-dressed and very much a part of a certain echelon in the new world. The relationship to Jocasta, for better or worse, helps with that. The idea of potentially getting a plot of hand does, as well. These are characters who may be forced to eventually make a key choice: Do they go along with society as it is, biding their times in hopes for change (at least with the American Revolution) later? Or, do they choose to be a little more proactive in fighting authority and convention now? We’ve never known Claire to sit idly by, and that’s why we certainly anticipate her speaking her mind in episode 2 — she may not achieve any desired results in this hour, but she certainly will make it clear where she stands. With her fashion, she does continue to make her presence felt.
