The season 1 finale managed to deliver its best live+same-day ratings since early October, drawing almost 1.31 million viewers live. Meanwhile, its 18-49 demo rating of 0.5 more or less equals the show’s performance from the previous four episodes. Over the second half of the season, it was clear that Mayans MC started to find its audience — there were many within that group who were a part of the Sons of Anarchy faithful, but we do also hope that there were others in there who discovered the show’s signature tone and voice as a breath of television fresh air. This was a diverse show that touched on themes of family and loss in different ways than we are used to and as we approach the second season now, we could be coming closer to the show discussing themes of revenge. After all, it is hard to envision a scenario where EZ Reyes (JD Pardo) opts to not act on the information he has acquired regarding Happy. He is going to want to do something to take control of his own life and get vengeance for part of what he lost.
As for what the ratings for Mayans MC season 2 could be, we’re at a point now where it is largely still too early to tell. Given that shows are binged-watched so much in this present era (way more than they were during the Sons of Anarchy heyday) you can fathom scenarios where throngs of people discover the series in its months away and decide that they have to start watching live. After all, Sons itself increased its audience almost every season! The big difference now is that viewers are even more resistant to commercials and may be more inclined to just wait for seasons to hit streaming services rather than watch them when it’s first on. It’s an interesting case study to follow; unfortunately, results will not be clear for quite some time.
More than likely, Mayans MC will premiere season 2 in 2019. For some of the earliest speculation all about that, we implore you to check out the story here.
