In a new post on Twitter, series star Malcolm Barrett confirmed (via an original post from executive producer Arika Lisanne Mittman) that he has officially wrapped up production in his role of Rufus. This character is passionate, beloved, funny, and also in need of saving. The Hero in a Hoodie is one of the most influential characters on the series in that he’s an ultimate underdog who had to learn to find his way throughout both the past and the present. He fell in love with Jiya, he fought bad guys, and he saved the day. Almost every day of Rufus’ journey became a journey of wish fulfillment. Now, everything is nearing the end — at least for the time being.
The Timeless movie is slated to air on NBC come Thursday, December 20, and with production nearing its end that gives the team behind the scenes the proper time to edit the episodes, score them, and get them ready to rock Clockblockers’ worlds. These installments are set to do a wide array of exciting things, whether it be showcase the future in some way, possibly #SaveRufus, and then also give you a chance to experience some holiday festivities at the same time. Given that they are airing at Christmastime, maybe this special could become something that NBC could bring back again down the road, either in repeats or as a special each year? If Doctor Who can have a Christmas special, why not Timeless?
Admittedly we’re still in the mold of trying to just get the series back for as many new episodes as possible, but can you really blame us? We love it dearly and the movement to even make this movie happen in the first place is all sorts of loving and inspiring. It shows the power of fandom and that power could certainly translate to more down the road. If you love Timeless, watch it live and encourage your fellow friends and fans to do the same! We all have a little Rufus in us in that helps us fight tooth and nail for everything, even when the odds are stacked against us. Even if there isn’t any more of the series, at least the opportunity exists via the movie to give these characters a satisfying conclusion that they so deserve after all the Rittenhouse battles, and time-travel side-effects like people magically coming back from the dead.
