Elementary season 7 spoilers: Joan’s adoption story won’t be picked up immediately

In the aftermath of the season 6 finale, what feels clear is that Joan and Sherlock are approaching a whole new world — they’re in London now after Sherlock found himself forced to leave the United States. With that, they’re approaching more of a typical Holmes / Watson partnership to what is in the classic stories of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. There is the familiar Elementary flair, though, but with this setting may come a reset of a few different things, and that includes Joan’s adoption plans. For starters, we’re not sure what her capabilities are to adopt in a country beyond the US. Meanwhile, she also has a difficult set of other circumstances that don’t make her the perfect candidate in some ways. That’s something that executive producer Rob Doherty laid out recent via TVLine:
“[The adoption story will not return] immediately. The end of the sixth season was a pretty good example of the degree of difficulty that exists for a prospective parent like Joan Watson. Her job is unique, her living situation is unique … [She was ready to adopt, but] the end of the season is a reminder that it’s dangerous to be a friend of Joan’s, let alone a son or daughter.”
Just remember that the conclusion of season 6 found Joan being accused of murdering the serial-killer Michael; she did not actually commit the crime, but this led to Sherlock taking the blame for it rather than allowing Gregson’s daughter Hannah to go down for a revenge murder. This led to London calling, a new living arrangement, and a whole new series of mystery-adventures. It appears as though Joan and Sherlock will spend at least some time in London during season 7, but eventually they could still find their way back to United States (Read more about that here.) You will also eventually see the glorious return of Bell and Captain Gregson both. This is basically the Elementary version of the Scooby gang and without the whole gang there, it isn’t quite the same. If you remember Scooby-Doo did some mysteries without Daphne, Fred, or Wilma — okay, you may not remember them, mostly because they weren’t anywhere near as good. This is our point.
The hardest thing to do when it comes to Elementary season 7 is simply wait for it, given that all signs point towards the series not coming back on the air until late spring / early summer. Think a similar time-frame to when the sixth season turned up on CBS.
