Following tonight’s new episode, Chicago PD season 6 episode 8 is going to continue to do what the show does best: Divert us in a new direction. They want to continue to keep us guessing and beyond that, they also want to make sure that everyone gets their own individual moment in the son. You have a cast decorated with awesomeness top to bottom; why not take advantage of all of them?

You saw a healthy dose of LaRoyce Hawkins’ Kevin Atwater at the end of tonight’s new episode and that brings us to some good news now: The spotlight will continue. You’re going to get a good chance to see him facing a major ethical dilemma that causes him to look in two different directions. In one, you’ve got Atwater the cop, the person who wants to follow orders and do the right thing for his job. Yet, in the other corner you’ve got Atwater the young man in Chicago — he wants to do what’s best for those around him. Unfortunately, as a black man in a contentious environment, sometimes what’s right for your community and what is right for the police department are two different things. Atwater will have to confront that and deal with the consequences in this episode, whatever they may be.

In true Chicago PD fashion, though, the series is not giving up a lot of information in terms of what’s coming. Here’s the official season 6 episode 8 synopsis:

11/14/2018 (10:00PM – 11:00PM) (Wednesday) : While CPD tries to take down a drug kingpin, Atwater (LaRoyce Hawkins) faces a tough choice between doing what’s required to solve the murder of a young dealer and what’s best for the community. TV-14 D, L, V

So what are we hoping to see across this episode? Think along the lines of a great story for Atwater in terms of his life on the force and his work away from it. We don’t get anywhere near enough updates on this guy’s personal life. LaRoyce Hawkins remains one of One Chicago’s most-underrated actors and this really is his time to shine.

Of course, there are some other storylines that also merit an update — we’re thinking along the lines here of what’s going on with Antonio and his addiction, coupled with whatever is coming up for Ruzek and Upton’s relationship. Can this actually work for the two of them, or is this doomed to fall apart at some point sooner rather than later? Given how secretive they’re being, it’s possible everything could fall apart.
