Outlander notes: Sam Heughan on The Tonight Show; producers talk premiere!

Outlander season 4

We certainly know that today is a busy one here in the USA (and the same goes for tonight!), so how about some Outlander notes to ease everyone into the night?

Related Outlander video! – Did you see our discussion video last night about the ratings for the premiere? If not, check that out below! Remember also that you can subscribe for more updates, and also take a look at our Outlander playlist. We have new videos up daily, so don’t miss out!

Let’s kick things off here with some news on the Sam Heughan promotional tour that we haven’t had the pleasure of discussing just yet: His appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night. In this appearance (which is your typical Fallon lighthearted fun), the actor opened up about auctioning himself off for a date — something that you can read a little bit more about at the story here! He also gets a chance to talk about his recent marathons and charity work, something that’s actually rather nice to hear on a late-night interview. Typically, these interviews are often short and full of fluff, and this one is more in the vein of “look at this good guy doing a lot to help others.” It’s a refreshing, and certainly-different change from what we’re accustomed to in the late-night interview world.

It goes without saying that there’s a reasonable amount of Outlander season 4 talk in here … or at least however much “reasonable” content that you can get into during a short interview. Yes, we do wish that Outlander stars got more airtime on late-night shows, but we’re in the “we’ll take what we can get” side of things.

Still, this was a fun interview, especially when you compare it to most junket fare that is out there.

A new discussion with Matthew B. Roberts and Maril Davis

If you look below, two of the show’s most-notable executive producers are sitting down to talk all about the eventful premiere. This is an episode that, if you somehow forgot over the past few days, featured Stephen Bonnet being awful, Jamie and Claire deciding to call America their home, and some big news for some supporting characters including Fergus and Marsali. There is still plenty more story to come, including the arrival of Aunt Jocasta and eventually some story when it comes to Roger and Brianna, but there’s still time for that. This is what happens when you’re only one episode into a topsy-turvy fourth season that will probably make you cry … while also pumping your fist in excitement. We felt all sorts of different emotions during it and we loved every moment of the ride.

Hopefully, Starz will continue the trend of interviews featuring Roberts and Davis throughout the season. In the past, we’ve also seen fellow executive producer Toni Graphia also included in some of the fun. We’ll see if that happens again.

Bonus video!

Surprise! We’ve got one more. After our own video below, take a look at Caitriona Balfe and Heughan’s video with Syfy Wire, where they break down all of the events of the premiere themselves.

As always with all things Outlander, we welcome some of your thoughts in the comments. (Photo: Starz.)
