Mayans MC season 2 premiere date hopes; when will JD Pardo, cast return?
Let’s start this off with yet another reminder that there is, in fact, going to be a Mayans MC season 2. This was confirmed a little earlier on this season, on the strength of what’s been a fairly successful first season in the ratings. Season 1 averaged a 0.6 rating in the 18-49 demographic, at least in terms of the live ratings. These are by no means, numbers akin to Sons of Anarchy during its heyday. Yet, you also must have to remember that Sons of Anarchy aired in a slightly different era, one in which people actually watched more live television and were less inclined to watch most of their shows through streaming services. There are also more viewers to count here — heck, FX doesn’t even bother discussing live ratings in most of their press-releases anymore. They’ve shifted to a model where they proclaim “our live+3 ratings are awesome!” and then brag about those. Then again, most of their shows do perform really well in live+3 so they have a lot to be proud of.
Let’s circle back now to the first question posed in this article. Given the timing of the renewal and the work ethic of creators Kurt Sutter and Elgin James, Mayans MC season 2 could be back in the fall of 2019. This would follow the successful pattern that Sons of Anarchy had for many years — a new season every year. It almost feels old-school these days when you think about how many shows take more time on writing or filming and push their premieres back later. It’s been forever since we’ve had new episode of Game of Thrones!
The hard part of waiting, for Mayans MC or any other show, is not knowing what’s next. For many months, you won’t hear all too much about what’s coming up next season. Things have a tendency to stay hush-hush for quite some time — heck, they could stay that way during filming depending on how secretive Sutter and James choose to be with casting news. We don’t think that this series needs to become Game of Thrones by any means and lock all story details up in a vault somewhere; yet, you don’t want to give all of your secrets away, either. There’s gotta be a nice balance with enough to get you excited and talking but not enough that no one cares when it finally airs.
As for what we want personally for season 2, it goes a little bit like this: More backstory, more individual episodes for supporting characters, and also more of EZ Reyes stepping into his own. Also, more of EZ and Angel working together. We got more of this through the second part of the season and that’s when Mayans MC came more into its own and more out of Jax Teller’s ominous and deadly shadow.
