The Good Doctor season 2 ratings tie Manifest (for now); Arrow falls
The first numbers are in for last night’s episode and the Freddie Highmore series ended up generating a 1.3 rating, which ties its best numbers of the season. Unfortunately, we don’t want to get too excited here given that the series was preempted in some markets last night for NFL football and more than likely, a Dallas Cowboys game is skewing the numbers in a way that makes it look like the audience is bigger than it really is. Still, if The Good Doctor finishes with a 1.0 rating or higher, that’s a win all things considered. Now for anyone out there that is worried this series is pretty much a lock to be renewed for another batch of episodes, so rest easy.

Meanwhile, the larger headline here is that Manifest is down to a 1.3 in its own right. This is a show that started with a 2.2 rating, so it’s already lost a sizable chunk of its viewership within just six or so airings. What does that mean? It may just be that more viewers are watching via DVR rather than watching live; still, it does signify that being a high-concept drama in 2018 is a little bit tricky, since it’s so difficult to convince people to watch one week after the next. The good news with this show is that it’s probably going to have a long streaming life ahead for it after the fact, depending of course on if it gets good placement and a release window there.
Finally, the last thing worth noting at the moment is that last night’s new episode of Arrow generated a 0.3 rating in the demo. That’s down versus its previous episode and is the lowest outing for the series to date. With this season being as dark and depressing as it is may likely be contributing to this issue and while we understand that Arrow is a dark show, they still have to give viewers a little hope to hold onto.
