The Resident season 2 episode 8 spoilers: Dr. Lane Hunter returns!

The Resident

Going into The Resident season 2, there were many reports out there noting that Melina Kanakaredes would be returning as Dr. Lane Hunter. Yet, it was not entirely clear how that was going to happen, and over the past few weeks, we’d started to wonder if that was really going to even happen anymore.

Now, we know for sure when the big return is going to happen: On Monday, November 19 for the episode entitled “Heart in a Box.” The circumstances of her return are still not entirely clear, given that presumably she should be in prison for much of what she’s done. Yet, overall it does feel like this is a story where a lot of recent stories are going to come to a head, including the relationship between Mina and Austin and then also Julian’s medical devices. In theory, these are supposed to help patients, but is Dr. Bell getting too caught up in the financial benefits of working with them?

CarterMatt has the full synopsis for the episode (the eighth one of season 2) below, and that includes the return of another familiar character from earlier this season:

Conrad goes head-to-head with Bell after he recommends one of Julian’s (guest star Jenna Dewan) risky medical devices to Zoey (guest star Daniella Alonso), who’s already lost one son and is back in the hospital with the other. Nic fears that Conrad may be getting overly attached to his patient. Meanwhile, Mina and Austin grow closer while working on a difficult heart transplant, Devon embarks on a very difficult day and Dr. Lane Hunter (guest star Melina Kanakaredes) returns in the all-new “Heart in a Box” episode of THE RESIDENT airing Monday, Nov. 19 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (RES-208) (TV-14 D, L, S, V)

Is Zoey going to be the new version of Lily, the devastating patient from the first season? It’s not a one-for-one comparison given that Zoey isn’t the person who is sick, but both of these characters are in some ways representative of how Conrad can get attached to patients. His level of care makes him a great doctor, but that also does create other complications in the process.
