For Callen, that meant becoming a temporary attorney in order to assist in the case of one Tiffany Williams, an asset who was imprisoned and charged with a crime she may not have committed while undercover. The big challenge for Callen is that he is not an attorney, which led to some very-entertaining scenes of him in court trying to figure out a way in which to ensure how to use the right legal language. This was not exactly his standard way of doing things; one of the best things about this episode was seeing Deeks trying to help her from afar.
But was this case precisely what it looked like on the surface? As it turns out, Tiffany was targeted by some very-bad people who were not happy about her involvement in the case. She and Deeks had to survive a pretty violent shootout right after Callen, Deeks, and a surprisingly-helpful Detective Whiting all came around to prove her innocence. This was a larger case than one that she would know precisely what to do with.
At the end of the episode, Deeks was able to realize through his interactions with Tiffany that she was actually working to protect someone else from her past — despite being fairly young, she has been through quite a bit. She did prove herself to be an asset for the team tonight, though, and we imagine that she could be once more in the future if the right use comes around for her.
CarterMatt Verdict
The hard thing about NCIS: Los Angeles season 10 episode 5 is that we can’t quite consider it to be the most memorable one in the world. We’re not altogether sure that most of these stories are going to matter all that much in the long run, largely due to the fact that there was no real update on Mosley, Hetty, or anyone else. Why couldn’t we further along the larger stories?
Well, there was still one story that did prove notable in the closing seconds: Anna’s arrest. Despite the work she did with the ATF, her shooting of Sokolov has officially come back to haunt her in some rather-big ways. We didn’t get a lot of Anna within this episode, but it was still clearly enough to matter.
