Emilia Clarke’s Game of Thrones audition story is funnier than most
While presenting Clarke with the British Artist of the Year Award at the Brittania Awards earlier this weekend, show co-creator D.B. Weiss had the following to say (per Variety) about the process of auditioning in front of HBO’s executives:
“Emilia asked if there was anything else she could do to lighten the mood and David [Benioff] asked, ‘Can you dance?’ And without missing a beat, Emilia did the robot … She did it with commitment and she did it well…and even the president had no choice but to smile. She got the job 10 seconds after she left the room and the two of us ran to tell her before she left the building because letting her get on an 11-hour flight home without knowing seemed like cruel and unusual punishment.”
This is an amusing story, but it does go very much in line with what we’ve heard about and seen from Clarke during the show’s run. Her sense of humor and passion for the job are two of the reason why she’s been so successful and gained as many fans as she has. She’s become one of the most-popular people in television and her Instagram is full of all sorts of fun moments.
Of course, much of this humor is in contrast with what we’re going to see from Clarke’s Daenerys over the course of season 8. It is the final one for the series on HBO and over the course of it, you are going to see every character struggle with trying to take on the White Walker army. Meanwhile, there’s also the new-found relationship with Jon Snow that is also worth exploring.
