Is Shameless new tonight on Showtime? What’s next with season 7

Alas, we’re going to be waiting for a rather long time to get some more answers on that. There is no new episode of the series coming up now until January 20, which is a terribly long time to wait. Apparently, Showtime thinks that giving us a couple of extra episodes this season is a nice way to make up for it. Those extra episodes may also be needed given what’s coming in terms of the story.
What we know for sure at the moment is simply this: Emmy Rossum is planning to leave at the end of season 9 and, at least so far, the writers are building towards some sort of proper send-off to the Fiona character. At the moment, she’s back at rock bottom — her business operations failed and she’s moving back in with the rest of the family. She’s going from what was great success for her to almost uncertain failure, and that’s a near-impossible transition to try to stomach. She knows that she has moved forward and made something so much greater out of herself. Expect the next seven episodes to be about how she picks herself back up and fights to move forward.
As for some other characters, we know that there are some big questions when it comes to many of them, as well. Take, for example, seeing whether or not Carl actually gets to West Point to improve his life; or, precisely what happens with Debbie and her own story. She’s focused more of her energy as of late on helping Fiona, but just how long is that going to last? Frank’s focused as of late mostly on his new love interest (Katey Sagal), and you know that there’s a less-than-zero percent chance that this is going to work out in any sort of reasonable way.
