Better Call Saul season 5: Aaron Paul still open to returning

Better Call Saul season 4

We’ve certainly heard Aaron Paul speak out in the past about a potential Better Call Saul appearance. Now, he’s doing so again and we’re still not altogether sure whether or not this should happen.

In a new interview with Digital Spy, Paul shared some of his thoughts about where he’d like Jesse Pinkman to be following the events of the Breaking Bad series finale; meanwhile, he did also remind us that he’s made it very clear he is willing to go back:

“I’d like to think he’s living peacefully somewhere in maybe New Zealand or Canada, making stuff with his hands … But the truth is his fingerprints are all over that massacre, and he’s being hunted.

“Who knows, maybe he’ll make an appearance on Better Call Saul. We’ve definitely raised our hands. Anything that [creator] Vince Gilligan asks of any of us, we would just happily say yes, really no matter what it was. Just because we have such faith in him, we know he will steer us.”

Our feeling about seeing Jesse again still remains that we don’t exactly know just what the narrative push would be for this other than to have a sort of wink-wink cameo that a show like Better Call Saul really needs. There’s value in bringing back people like Jimmy, Mike, and Gus since there’s more story to tell with these characters after they were on the periphery for some of the original show. We already had the story of Walt and Jesse. Is it tempting to say that they should appear in the final scene, which is when Jimmy (as Saul) meets the two of them for the first time? Absolutely, but we don’t really love the idea of being able to predict precisely how the show is going to end so far out.
