Summer renewal watch: Take Two, Salvation season 3, and Reverie
It’s typically around this time when a number of summer shows find out whether or not they are coming back for another season.
With that in mind, what’s with the wait on Take Two, Salvation, and Reverie? These are three of the more-noteworthy shows that aired this summer, and none of them have been announced for another season just yet. Unless there is some potential delay (or the seasons are super-rushed), it feels like the production teams will need to know one way or another by the end of next month. Yet, it’s radio silence at present.
When it comes to the three shows, we’re probably the most optimistic about Take Two — it had some potential to perform well in the ratings for most of the summer, but often struggled due to preemptions or NFL competition. We think it has the most upside and is the easiest for new viewers to get into it.
Meanwhile, Salvation does have a loyal internet following plus a huge cliffhanger that generates more interest. Perhaps its biggest ace-in-the-hole right now has nothing actually to do with CBS; instead, it’s the streaming deal at Amazon. That allows for more viewers to check it out and for the network to get a little bit more income.
As for Reverie, we’re the most pessimistic here just because its ratings weren’t altogether strong, it hasn’t had as much buzz from what we’ve seen as the other shows, and while it does have procedural elements, we’re not sure it would pull new viewers next year in the way that a Take Two did. Nonetheless, we’re still hoping that it, and both of the other shows, end up coming back for more down the road.
