The Conners season 1 episode count increases by one

The Conners

Just in case you wanted more of The Conners on ABC, we’ve got even more good news to hand down today!

The network has now officially confirmed that there is one more episode being added to the show’s season 1 order, which means that you’re getting eleven episodes instead of the previous ten. That gives the writers a chance to craft another story leading up to the finale, and of course for ABC it allows them to make more money. As we posted recently in our Ratings Watch video (be sure to subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for videos like this!), the network has to be pleased with The Conners getting a 1.7 rating in the 18-49 demographic for this past episode. While it is not so spectacular as to be granted mega-hit status, we do think it merits some high-fives among executives. This puts The Conners, at least in the demo, up there with The Big Bang Theory, Last Man Standing, and Modern Family as one of TV’s top comedy series.

As for whether or not we are going to get more of The Conners beyond this season, it all comes down to how the ratings hold up and if the cast wants to make more. If the numbers stay around where they are now, it feels very much like a given that ABC will want more. Even if this show is not getting above a 3.0 anymore, there are so few network comedies getting even above a 1.5 that scoring anything beyond that feels like a cause for great celebration.

Ultimately, The Conners remains to us one of our greatest ratings curiosities, mostly because of the headlines around it, the talent of the people still on the show, and of course the polarizing reaction to it by most potential viewers. It’s not going to shatter the news cycle anytime soon (unless, of course, Roseanne says something), but it still could be rather notable.
