Daredevil season 4: Charlie Cox on Netflix series’ chance of renewal
What are the chances of a Daredevil season 4 over at Netflix? Right now, there are some serious question marks.
For starters, where do you go from here after the end of season 3? We’re coming off of a batch of episodes where Matt Murdock fully embraced darkness, and what happened was we had the most painful and dark season to date. You have to be able to find a little more hope, and that sometimes isn’t an easy thing to find for someone who has been through what Matt has.
Beyond just this, there is of course another problem here in whatever Netflix decides to do with the series. Both Luke Cage and Iron Fist are (seemingly) gone, and that does put a greater risk on some of the other shows. For a long time, we assumed that this superhero universe would go however long Marvel wanted them to; now, nothing feels anywhere near as secure.
Speaking in a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, here is what star Charlie Cox had to say on the subject of the show’s future — at least from his vantage point (it’s hard for him to focus on matters outside of his control):
At this point, I don’t know if there’s any intention of us doing more seasons. But were that to be the case, I think there’s an interesting challenge for the writers, because I don’t think we can do another season where Matt is so isolated, so alone, and so broken and angry. I think in order to avoid being a broken record, we’re going to have to find a Matt Murdock that at least initially has a slightly different attitude toward the people that he loves, and toward himself, and toward God. I think in season four, there needs to be at least one episode where he goes on holiday to the Caribbean, and the whole crew needs to migrate down there for two weeks, and the whole episode he just sits on a beach.
Hopefully, no matter what the answer is, we will get some sort of answer over the months to come.
