Megyn Kelly’s Today Show departure imminent … says Today Show itself
This morning on NBC’s Today Show, Morgan Radford reported that Kelly’s likely departure from the network was “imminent.” Meanwhile, the tweet below from the show cites a “source familiar with this situation.” Given that Kelly was a part of Today, isn’t everyone a “source familiar with the situation”? Doesn’t everyone know something on some level? There are reports today about a meeting taking place to negotiate an exit for Kelly from the network, even though she has more than a year remaining on a massive contract she signed following her time from Fox News.
It’s not altogether hard to figure out why NBC is at this point eager to move on from Kelly. Her solo news program failed to deliver much of a ratings bump when it was on the air; meanwhile, Megyn Kelly Today has not delivered all that much in the way of positive feedback. She’s had her fair share of headlines, but a number of them have come from less-than-positive situations. The most recent one, and the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back, were her comments about blackface makeup earlier this week. That led to many of her own colleagues publicly lambasting her. Kelly issued an apology after the fact, but that has not changed much when it comes to the sentiment towards her after the fact.
We imagine that by the end of the month, most of this saga will be at a close. NBC News will have a chance to properly move forward; as for the future of Kelly, that remains unclear but she’s certainly made enough money through this contract alone that she may not have to work anywhere again. That’s all down to whether or not she finds someone who wants to bring her on board in the face of such blowback.
