‘Shiptober 2018: Grey’s Anatomy (Owen & Amelia) vs. Wynonna Earp (Waverly & Nicole)
It’s a chance to celebrate some of the greatest ‘ships that the TV has to offer, and we’ve got a fun tournament this year to go along with it. Over the course of this month, we’ll be running some ‘Shiptober polls while also discussing what makes some of these couples so great and also sharing some teases / expectations for upcoming episodes! This is a chance to celebrate and discuss great ‘ships while gauging their popularity among readers at the same time. Only one ‘ship will be crowned the victor at the very end!
Voting Rules – Vote however often you like! Only one ‘ship from round 3 will move onward, and we are keeping these polls open until Friday, October 26 at 1:00 p.m. Pacific time. The following day, the fourth round will officially begin. (All of the information needed can be found in the bracket image above.)
In this ‘Shiptober battle, we’re closing off round three — or at least the part of it where we introduce new competitors! Here, we’ve got Owen & Amelia of Grey’s Anatomy facing off against Nicole & Waverly for Wynonna Earp. Only one of them will make the final four!
Owen & Amelia, Grey’s Anatomy (#5 seed) – Just in terms of placement, Omelia are the clear underdogs remaining in the tournament — even if it is weird to say that given that Grey’s Anatomy is one of the higher-rated shows of the bunch. They go through spells here and there when they don’t get a whole lot of attention, though that’s clearly not going to be the case over the next few weeks. While they’ve been in a somewhat-happier place this season with their family-of-sorts, there is also a certain aura of mystery around still where things are going to go. The biggest question mark out there right now is Teddy, given that she is closing in on a point where she could tell Owen the truth about her pregnancy. All signs point to this not being your typical love triangle, but it still remains an interesting story to watch. Here’s to hoping there’s no further heartbreak for Omelia along the way.
Waverly & Nicole, Wynonna Earp (#2 seed) – Even if Wynonna Earp doesn’t get the ratings of a Grey’s Anatomy, it’s been clear for well over a year now that Wayhaught is one of television’s most-popular ‘ships, especially in terms of internet fandoms. Why wouldn’t it be? It’s fun, supportive, and almost aspirational in a lot of ways for many of its viewers. It’s also a little bit harder to talk about their future just because it is still so far down the road. Season 4 hasn’t even started to film just yet! What is clear at the moment is that showrunner Emily Andras cares deeply about this relationship and understands what Earpers love about it. With that in mind, it’s hard to imagine anything but excellent story coming up that will challenge Waverly and Nicole, but uplift them at the same time.
