Is Empire new tonight on Fox? Return-date hopes, stories to expect
Alas, it’s not the sort of news many people out there are likely hoping for. There is no new installment of the Fox series coming Wednesday, due entirely to the World Series continuing onward between the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. If you are a longtime viewer of Empire, then you certainly know at this point that this is hardly a new development. It’s something that happens more or less on an annual basis — and sometimes, it actually becomes a little bit confusing as to when the series is actually going to be on the air.
For the time being, what we know is this: For sure, there is no Empire on the air tonight. Tentatively, there will be an installment airing on October 31. Yet, that could change in the event that the World Series goes to Game 7 — if that happens, the next Empire will come on the air on November 7, one day after the Midterm Elections.
(Small theory: Is it actually better for Empire to air a new episode on November 7 rather than on Halloween night? It’s almost a blessing in disguise ratings-wise if the show can avoid airing then … provided, of course, that they also don’t have to air the night before Thanksgiving. That night can also be ratings Kryptonite.)
Whenever Empire actually does return to the air, we imagine that it is going to bring with it a number of exciting storylines, most notably one where we continue to see if Lucious and Cookie can do whatever they can in order to ensure that they can get back much of what they previously lost. These two are in a fun position now where they are underdogs, and we think that the premise of this season has reinvigorated it somewhat and brought it back to a place that it has not been in a rather-long time. It’s hard to really keep that sort of spark once you are so many years into the show’s run.
