NCIS: Los Angeles star Barrett Foa to appear on Will & Grace

While he may be better known as Eric Beale on NCIS: Los AngelesBarrett Foa is getting set to add another name to his portfolio.

According to a new report from TVLine, Foa is poised to guest-star on an upcoming episode of NBC’s Will & Grace as Paul, a potential love interest for Eric McCormack’s character of Will. While on paper the two may have a number of things in common, including that they are both teachers, it will become clear after this that there are some differences that may keep them from working out. A part of that has to do with some information Will learns about Paul’s home life.

In some ways, Will & Grace is a bit of a pseudo-homecoming for Foa, given that he was raised in Manhattan. Of course, we use the word “pseudo” here given that the NBC sitcom is actually not filmed in New York; it’s actually tapped in front of a studio audience in Los Angeles, where there is some TV magic to make the sets appear like the Big Apple. Given that Barrett already works on NCIS: LA in the city, that makes traveling to this job rather easy.

For those who are worried that this gig is somehow a signal that Foa will no longer be a part of NCIS: Los Angeles, don’t be — most series regulars have a chance occasionally to appear in an episode of a different show, even if it airs on a different network. It can sometimes just require a little bit of legwork. Sitcom roles are a little bit easier to schedule just because the hours are a little less crazy — he just needs to have a specific block of time available in order to do it. We also think that this could open the door for Barrett to appear down the road, depending of course on how things work out between Will and Paul.
