The Flash season 5 episode 3: Is Cisco dead; what is Nora’s secret?

Flash season 5 episode 2

The Flash season 5 episode 3 brought us, by far, the largest deep dive into the world of Cicada yet. What did we learn? Well, quite a bit.

For starters, it turns out that Cicada is actually on Earth-1 earlier than he should be. The notorious serial killer, who apparently no one in the Arrowverse ever caught, is present earlier than he should be. To go along with that, he’s also a different person apparently. Nora coming back changed the timeline and also caused a lot of chaos. She’s feeling a great deal of guilt over that and with this in mind, Barry had to encourage her to not harbor all that much guilt.

In order to try to make the hunt for Cicada a little bit easier, the STAR Labs team did everything that they could to take the character on — that included bringing Sherloque Wells, a master detective from another world. He is incredibly skilled at what he does, and apparently has a habit of taking down Cicada on other worlds … but apparently not this one. This is different, and this version of Cicada really means business. He’s powerful, formidable, and capable of some really scary stuff. For a few moments tonight, we actually did think that Cisco died — “The Death of Vibe” really wanted you to think that this was going to happen.

Yet, thanks to a trick from Nora West-Allen, Cisco made it through, but then again, there is another problem in that Cicada is still out there. They didn’t solve the problem entirely here — they just spared themselves some trouble for now. The problem is that Vibe now has to be under the radar. He has to pretend to be dead in order to keep himself safe for now.

What we learned about Cicada

In the closing seconds, we uncovered that the man behind the character was a father dealing with a young daughter who was very sick; somehow, what he is doing seems to be tied to her. Does he wants revenge over something that happened to him?

Dibny and Caitlin’s mission

Ralph worked alongside Caitlin to get her closure on what happened with her father, which included paying her mother a visit and eventually uncovering a note — a suicide note. Is he really gone, though? Caitlin did think that something was off since this isn’t something that her father would typically do. That’s when she was able to decode something in secret that led to a message: “Caitlin Come Find Me.” He’s still alive! Many fans out there already knew this, but it’s still rather nice to know.

CarterMatt Verdict

Tonight, The Flash season 5 episode 3 brought you a lot of entertaining moments, but also still has some work to do. For starters, Sherloque does need a little bit of development to be anywhere near as interesting as some of the other iterations of Wells. Yet, Sherloque did come to a rather interesting observation at the end: Did Nora come to the conclusion that she did at the end of season 4 on her own? She’s got a secret of her, and he’s already picked up on it.
