The Voice season 15: Mariah Carey to be Knockout Rounds adviser

Voice season 13 promo

The Voice season 15 is going to be airing its Knockout Rounds very soon, and they have brought in a worthy adviser: Mariah Carey.

Today, NBC confirmed that the multi-platinum artist and former American Idol judge will do her part to offer feedback on some of the performances from the remaining contestants. It’s a rather surprising role given Carey’s previously not-so-kind thoughts on Idol. Yet, at the same time this is not the same exact job that she’s had before. She is not around in order to offer up some negative feedback. Instead, she is going to be here to just encourage and give a little bit of insight from her career.

Could this lead to Carey eventually getting a chair on the competition show? We doubt it, mostly because we’re not entirely sure that she wants that. Beyond that, it’s hard to imagine someone off being bumped off of the panel at the moment; it’s a pretty tight-knit group and we don’t think that the chemistry between some of the coaches is really the issue here. Instead, it’s just a format that has become somewhat stale over time. It feels like it would be a little bit more interesting at the moment if The Voice found a way to get rid of the Knockout Rounds and the Battle Rounds in favor of longer live shows. What that would offer us as viewers is a chance to really be able to dive in and get to know these people more … and also see precisely what they could bring to us in terms of live performances.

A number of super high-profile artists have taken on this role of key adviser for the Knockout Rounds in the past — think along the lines of Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, and Chris Martin of Coldplay. It’s a chance for them to get a lot of face-time on a popular show without having to film for a ridiculously long period of time. It’s a fairly easy job for them, in the end.
