World Series 2018: James Taylor performs National Anthem before Game 1

Fox

The World Series is airing tonight on Fox, and of course with that in mind comes a notable James Taylor – National Anthem performance.

Why does it make sense for Taylor to perform this? Well, he’s a very identifiable performer to everyone in Boston because he’s originally from the city. It’s a native son getting to perform the Anthem on one of Boston’s biggest stakes. If you love Boston, there’s almost no doubt that you probably loved this. As for everyone else, let’s just say that the performance may be a little bit polarizing. While he brought a unique interpretation to the table, it may still have been polarizing to some out there.

If there is one notable critique that we’ve seen over the years for bringing Taylor on board, it’s that he tends to do this all the time. Why aren’t there more Boston talents featured? Granted, this is leagues better than having Steven Tyler perform like he did for the Patriots. For some out there, the repeat performances are nostalgic. For some other viewers, let’s just say not so much. He’s also performed the Anthem at some other events over the years, including the NBA Finals — which he did many years ago.

You can, at least for now, view the performance of Taylor below.

We’ll see if there are any other notable Anthem performances coming in the days ahead. We do anticipate that Los Angeles is going to have the pick of many singers leading out to the start of their big game; the only challenge that they are going to have is find a way for them to make it to the game amidst all of the major traffic in the city. (Maybe someone will helicopter them in somehow.)
