The Walking Dead season 9 episode 3: Will Maggie or Daryl kill Negan?

Walking Dead season 8

What happened at the end of The Walking Dead season 9 episode 3 is something that could reverberate moving forward. After all, it is tied to a big decision that Rick Grimes made at the end of this past season.

This spring, Rick decided to keep Negan alive, a choice that he made in an effort to bring about a new era of peace and of things operating in a different way. Yet, Maggie and Daryl have shown already that they have no problem having bloodshed for the sake of weeding out the evil. Now, they are seemingly on their way to do away with Negan themselves. If they try to kill him, there could be more consequences that go along with that. One of the dilemmas here, though, is this: If we do see Maggie and Daryl try to kill Negan, who is going to stand in their way? Beyond that, why would anyone stand in their way? What’s the ultimate incentive to really do that? There isn’t any, so let’s go ahead and make that clear.

For now, at the moment the series’ executive producer in Angela Kang is keeping things under wraps; yet, she did tee up the story ahead to Entertainment Weekly with the following:

I’ll say that we saw Maggie and Daryl resolve something at the end of episode 3, and that story plays out. Daryl pledged to help her in this, and that’s gonna put him into some conflict with some of our other characters. And we’ll see Maggie make her way to Alexandria, and how that story plays out. Later in this season, we obviously will get to the story of the Whisperers. And for people who don’t know the comic that don’t want to totally spoil what that is, the information is out there for people who want to find it. But that is another mystery and an interesting problem that they run into, as well as there will be great new characters that turn the story in interesting ways.

Will Maggie and Daryl get their way? It’s something to think about, especially since we do think that at some point, there needs to be a time when characters come together. It’s mostly just a matter of which sides wins out.
