Madam Secretary season 5 episode 3 video: Elizabeth gets jury duty

Even though Elizabeth McCord may be the Secretary of State, that does not exempt her from one thing on Sunday’s Madam Secretary — jury duty. Or, at the very least, reporting for it and appearing in-person.

In the sneak peek below for this episode, you can see Elizabeth explaining how she set herself up to have to appear in person because she didn’t call to reschedule in time. (She’s been a little bit busy, suffice it to say.) This leads to her having to sit in a room with a number of other people, which of course leads to small talk and a little bit of commentary. The best moment of this entire preview is when someone seemingly recognizes Elizabeth, only to then ask if she is a Real Housewife. This is a pretty sad commentary on where we are as a society right now, but it is also worth a few laughs.

Will Elizabeth get out of jury duty? Probably, but we almost wish that she didn’t since that would be potential for great fodder in an episode. (We’ve already had it on another CBS show this year in Bull.) There are of course some other things on her plate coming up, and that includes heading to Milan’s Fashion Week in order to do battle over some sweatshop violations with a Chinese foreign minister. While there’s a lot of comedy to be had in this sneak peek, there will probably be a whole lot less laughter when these two people sit down for a discussion.

Meanwhile, we also have a hard time thinking the recent attack on the White House will be ignored. Stevie is still in recovery from what happened, and even when she gets better it is hard to imagine that she’s going to move past it right away. This is the sort of thing that does tend to stick with you.
