Madam Secretary season 5 episode 5 spoilers: Henry & an international incident

Madam Secretary often features characters who find themselves at the center of international crises — yet, not often is it personal in the way that it is for Henry later this season. On season 5 episode 5 airing on CBS on November 4, you are going to see something from his past cause a number of problems in his present. At the center of this is an ex-girlfriend from his past; he wants to do something to help her, but it could have an adverse effect.

“Ghosts” – Henry finds himself at the center of an international incident, when he comes to the aid of an ex-girlfriend at a religious freedom conference in Thailand, after she is imprisoned for condemning the monarchy. Also, Elizabeth helps Jason navigate the pressure of preparing for college, on MADAM SECRETARY, Sunday, Nov. 4 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

The idea here seems to be mostly giving us some reminders that no matter what some of these characters are going through in the political realm, they are still people. They bleed and suffer and struggle through highs and lows in a wide array of ways and this is going to be at the forefront of this show always. While the storyline coming up for Elizabeth here may not be a major threat to her career or her life, it is still emotional to see your son prepare for the next phase of his life. He’s entering a time when he figures out precisely what he wants from his life, and she needs to figure out the right way in which to help without becoming overbearing in the process. It’s a balance that any parent has to maintain in the end.
