Outlander notes: The latest on Jamie, Claire, Sophie Skelton, and Richard Rankin
Let’s start things off here with the latest Jamie / Claire photo, which comes via Vanity Fair and their latest showcase of photo / video content from season 4. They have a clip featuring Caitriona Balfe speaking about the new season, and that’s absolutely something that is worth checking out. They also have a short interview with executive producer Maril Davis, who says the following about the state of things for Balfe and Sam Heughan’s characters — basically, this is her doing her best to remind everyone that this is not meant to be a show where their relationship is always in question:
We’ve always said that this is not Sam and Diane from Cheers. This is never going to be will they/won’t they. Let’s show a new stage or kind of relationship in TV, of a loving couple and them staying together. It’s a mature, loving relationship, and that’s so interesting to us, and something we’ve talked about to the actors quite a bit. In some ways, though, it’s starting over for them again after the 20 years apart—relearning each other’s ways. This is such a busy season, with Brianna and Roger being in the forefront a little more and their relationship unfolding. But we’re trying to do these small moments with Jamie and Claire.
Rest assured that there will be plenty of moments featuring Jamie and Claire that fans out there will appreciate.

The latest via Sophie Skelton, Richard Rankin
In the new video below, you can see Skelton speak with Entertainment Tonight’s Leanne Aguilera about playing Brianna this season, including how the famed festival scene was actually filmed on two separate occasions! Apparently, the producers determined that they wanted something bigger and went back and filmed something a second time to make things as grand and authentic as possible. (Rankin shows up near the end of the video to chime in with a few of his own thoughts.)
