Dancing with the Stars 27 elimination: Tinashe exits over Grocery Store Joe

Going into tonight’s Dancing with the Stars 27 episode, our assumption was that Grocery Store Joe would be in a little bit of danger. He’s scored the smallest amount of points so far this season and even though he has the Bachelor Nation following behind him, that is no guarantee for long-term success with this series. More often than not, Bachelor / Bachelorette alum tend to bounce at some point before the finale.

Yet, did our pre-show prediction of Joe’s demise turn out to be reality? The final results are in, and it was … not Grocery Store Joe. Instead, singer Tinashe was eliminated in what was one of the most shocking eliminations that we’ve ever seen through this series’ run. She was a great dancer, and while she didn’t have a famous partner, that doesn’t always matter all that much. This is another reminder that sometimes, having a big ABC fan base and recency on your side really matters.

Also, it’s a reminder that great stars don’t always last as long as humanly possible. Sometimes, they go home a little bit earlier than they should, and it’s often hard to identify a single reason for it. Sometimes, they go home because of one bad dance, voter complacency, or just a partner who isn’t as well-known.

As we explain in the video below (subscribe to CarterMatt on YouTube for more), the reality here is that Tinashe wasn’t going to win this season. If you’re going home this early, odds are, you are going home before it gets too far into the season. The reason that this one hurts so much is because she went home while some weaker dancers are clearly in the competition.
